How often do you reach the end of the day feeling completely drained, wondering where all your energy went?
We’re taught to manage our time, but what if energy management is even more important? Time is a fixed resource, but energy is something we can renew, redirect, and protect. And how we spend our energy determines the quality of our days, our work, and our relationships.
The real question isn’t just how you spend your time—it’s who and what you’re giving your energy to.
Take a moment to reflect: What’s something that takes more of your energy than it gives back? And what truly fuels you?
Why energy management matters more than time management
We all have the same 24 hours in a day, but why do some people seem to get so much done while others feel constantly exhausted? The difference isn’t in how much time they have—it’s in how they manage their energy.
Think about it: Some tasks leave you feeling inspired and engaged, while others leave you drained, no matter how much time they take. Some people lift your spirit, while others deplete it. If we don’t pay attention to where our energy is going, we end up exhausted, not because we did too much, but because we spent it in the wrong places.
How to identify what drains you vs. what energizes you
Energy leaks happen when we:
Say yes to things that don’t align with us.
Spend too much time on draining relationships or environments.
Neglect the habits and practices that replenish us.
Ask yourself:
What activities, people, or thoughts leave me feeling exhausted?
What moments in my day make me feel the most alive and engaged?
Am I choosing what fuels me, or am I running on autopilot?
Imagine how different your life could feel if you redirected even a fraction of your energy toward things that nourish you.
How to spend your energy more intentionally
If energy is like currency, then it’s time to spend it more wisely. Here’s how:
Set energy boundaries. Just because something asks for your attention doesn’t mean it deserves it. Protect your energy like you would your most valuable resource.
Prioritize what replenishes you. Whether it’s creative time, deep rest, meaningful conversations, or time in nature—make space for the things that refuel you.
Let go of what drains you. If something consistently depletes you, ask yourself if it’s truly necessary. If not, release it.
What would shift if you started treating your energy as something sacred, something that deserves to be spent on what truly matters?
The power of being intentional with your energy
When we stop managing just our schedules and start managing our energy, life changes. We stop feeling like we’re constantly running on empty, and we start moving with more clarity, purpose, and vitality.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about how much you did—it’s about how alive you felt while doing it.
Your energy is one of your greatest assets. Spend it on what expands you, what brings you joy, and what aligns with who you are becoming.
So, I ask you: What’s one thing you can remove from your life that drains your energy? And what’s one thing you can do today that will truly refuel you?
