Have you ever caught yourself holding onto a belief so tightly that you never questioned if it was actually true?

We all carry beliefs—about ourselves, about the world, about what is possible. Some of them serve us, shaping our confidence and direction. But others? Others limit us, keeping us in familiar patterns, preventing growth, and stopping us from seeing new possibilities.

Take a moment to reflect: What’s one belief you’ve always had that might be worth re-examining?

Why we hold onto certain beliefs
Our beliefs are formed over time, shaped by experiences, upbringing, and the narratives we’ve absorbed from others. Some become so ingrained that we mistake them for truth rather than perspectives.

Think about a belief you’ve carried since childhood. Where did it come from? Is it still true for you today, or is it simply something you’ve never questioned?

The difference between fixed and expansive thinking
When we hold onto beliefs rigidly, we limit our own potential. Fixed thinking says:

  • "I’m just not creative."

  • "I’ll never be good at this."

  • "This is just how things are."

But expansive thinking asks:

  • What if that’s not true?

  • What if I’ve just never been given the right tools?

  • What might be possible if I looked at this differently?

Imagine if you replaced certainty with curiosity. What new possibilities might open up?

How to challenge a limiting belief
If a belief has been part of your thinking for years, shifting it won’t happen overnight. But awareness is the first step.

Try this:

  1. Identify a belief that has held you back.

  2. Ask yourself, Where did this belief come from? Is it based on fact or assumption?

  3. Reframe it. Instead of “I’m not good at this,” what happens if you say, “I’m still learning this, and I can improve”?

The way we speak to ourselves matters. When we shift our internal dialogue, we shift what we believe is possible.

The freedom of being willing to be wrong
There’s a strange sense of liberation in realizing we don’t have to be right all the time. That it’s okay to evolve, to outgrow old perspectives, to rewrite the stories we tell ourselves.

What if, instead of clinging to beliefs for security, we embraced the idea that growth comes from being open to change?

The moment we start questioning our own thinking, we open ourselves to new insights, new growth, and new ways of seeing the world.

So, I ask you: What’s one belief you’ve carried that you’re ready to challenge? And how might letting go of it create more space for growth in your life?
